about

Last year in September, I had the pleasure of collaborating with my dear friends Mircha Mangiacotti, Rodrigo Santiago, and Roberto Fontana from Brisbane band, The Gypsy Cats. They were on tour in Sydney, and I saw this as a golden opportunity to document their visit by recording some tracks at "Bloody Dog," a studio owned by Marcus Holden accompanied by the incredible Oscar Peterson on bass.

In essence, this ep is a selection of spontaneous arrangements conceived after a performance the previous night, where we played together as an ensemble for the first time at the Butchers Brew Bar in Dulwich Hill, Sydney. We recorded everything live and used the first or second take of each tune. This collection of recordings is a testament to the boundless creativity and exceptional musical prowess of both The Gypsy Cats and Oscar Peterson. It reaffirms my belief that these musicians rank among the finest gypsy swing players in Australia and deserve wider recognition.
